A fun fact: did you know that Mothering Sunday is something separate to Mother’s Day? According to the BBC, Mothering Sunday is celebrated in the UK on the fourth Sunday of Lent and has been since the Middle Ages. Historically on this day children who have left home for work return to their mothering ‘churches’ and visit their mothers at the same time. Mother’s Day, in contrast, was started in the US in 1907 by a lady named Anna Jarvis, who staged a memorial for her own mother. It caught on and by 1914 it became a national holiday, celebrated on the second Sunday of March each year.
Whether you celebrate on Mothering Sunday or Mother’s Day, selecting a little something for mum is a lovely way of showing your appreciation for everything she does. We have a few ideas to really help you do just that.
