Things to Do On My Day Off - With or Without the Kids.
As the Summer Holidays draw to a close, many of us are looking for ways to unwind, or cram in a little bit of freedom before the kids go back to school, or work starts to ramp up again. While there is always a reason to take a day for yourself, many of us feel that we simply have too much to do and feel guilty for taking time for ourselves but after the last few months right now might be the best time to take a ‘staycation’. Taking time off is a gift.
With Boris introducing the traffic light system for travelling, a lot of people are finding it less risky to spend their days off holidaying in the UK where there is no need to quarantine when coming home. This is great news for all sorts of British businesses, particularly the tourism industry, who despite having a torrid time throughout Covid are now able to open again and are starting to recoup some of their losses. Add to that the excellent summer weather we have had and that the UK has something for everyone, staying here seems like the best plan, let's face it when the weather is good you could imagine yourself to be anywhere in the world. It all sounds great but prices in some holiday spots have more than trebled, as demand for UK holidays has increased so has the price making it hard for those on a tight budget.
This is where we can help with a true "staycation" right in your own home!
Many health experts are now advocating for a ‘self-care’ approach to our work/life balance.Taking more time off from work or education is seen as essential for the health of a nation and there are many governments around the world who have had this attitude for years and it works. The Scandinavian populations are said to be the happiest. The Scottish government is considering implementing a four-day work week, something that the Green Party has as a main policy. While a four-day work week would be wonderful, for now a lot of us look forward to the weekend, or the rare few days booked off. However you spend your days off, Ooh Box is here to help you make the most of it.
You don't need to spend a fortune on a luxury spa day, it's so easy to do your own. For me, the best way to spend a day off is to make it all about me. I shut myself away, light some candles, run a bath and eat chocolate. Lots of chocolate. A pamper gift box is something that can give you a spa day at home and relieve the tension of a working week. Combine that with a nice glass of fizz (included in our Pink Pamper) and an early night and you’ve got yourself a perfect relaxed evening!
Taking time off work is about doing something different from your usual routine. They say a change is as good as a rest. Perhaps a greener fingered person would like to spend their day out in the open air. A gift box for gardeners, full of beautiful seeds to plant and a nice mug for your brew of choice, is the perfect way to spend a sunny day in the garden or allotment. This is especially lovely if you’ve got kids or grandkids around, where you can create their very own nature school. A baking day is another perfect activity especially when you have little ones, it's messy. fun and they can eat the results too.
Of course, sometimes there’s no better way to spend your well-deserved time off than on a ‘day out’. Take the kids, some friends, your significant other, or even make it a solo mission and get out and about to see the sights. For further flung adventures make sure you have the essentials for the journey. Car accessories like a sustainable coffee cup, power bank, and phone charger (make sure you’ve built your playlist if it’s a long drive!) are invaluable and make a great gift for yourself or someone in your family who has a staycation planned or spends a lot of time on the road.
It’s never been more important to take time out for yourself and find some R&R in a hectic week or month, and whether that’s getting active outdoors, or finding respite indoors, make sure you make it a perfect day for yourself. And don't forget to get yourself some chocolate!
